Workshop: Mask Building Workshop with artist and curator Teodoro Dragonieri

Join artist and curator, Teodoro Dragonieri as he explores the themes, mythology and relationships of the mask that exist in the Varley Gallery’s current exhibition, ‘Carnival: the Spirit and the Soul’ on exhibit until October 11, 2009.   Masks are experiencing a revival in western civilization, because no other theatrical property or inanimate object is so universally successful in releasing transformational power, stimulating the imagination and demanding attention. One will be introduced to the historical significance of the mask and learn about various methods of   construction.  Explore the diverse performance practices of different types of masks, including Commedia dell’Arte and celebrate the shared cultural roots of ‘Carnival’ around the world.
