The Expansion Project

In 2006 and 2007, the Gallery and the Foundation were honoured by the outstanding contribution of $1,458,000 from Mr. Wallace Joyce.  In December, the Mayor and Council acknowledged the most generous donation of Mr. Joyce.  Council then voted unanimously to support the feasibility study undertaken by the Foundation proposing an addition to the Gallery.  The contribution will be combined with funds that the Town of Markham has received from the Province of Ontario to finance the addition.  The addition will be funded with no Markham tax dollars.

As of July 2009, the final design drawings are nearly ready, all stakeholders are onside, and the tenders for pre-approved contractors will be let in late fall. The current projection for the first shovel in the ground in spring 2010, with completion in spring 2011.
