This year, families are invited to create their own unique family portrait snapshots!

Build props and a backdrop of your favourite or most meaningful family moment and capture it on film in the photo booth for posterity. Each family will receive a copy of their strip and images will be available online on the Varley’s Facebook page to keep and share. The program also includes a visit into the gallery to view portraits in our permanent collection and gain inspiration for this family inspired project.

Update 34 – December 4, 2011

The construction meeting took place as usual on Thursday December 1. In general, all is progressing well. The contractor continues to promise substantial completion for Dec 23. Glasswork nears completion, new stairs are in, cork floor about to be laid in offices, office kitchen is on site. The essential tricky work left is electrical. Also, the large windows (for introductory gallery and new gallery) are on site and they must get installed before the project is completely closed in and the heating can be fully functional. At that point, the gallery floor can be laid. Elevator is operational. The opening to the gallery from the elevator lobby must be competed, i.e. millwork installed. Indeed a lot of millwork needs to be installed in short order, and some painting. Still, you can see that when I’m talking about these details, we are close to completion.

Today’s construction meeting culminated with an extensive site visit. The work is progressing rapidly now that the glass is in, as the pictures show. The construction trailer is gone from the site and the valley slope is being graded. Tree planting and landscaping takes place the week of November 14. The two interior spaces shown are both very good – the second floor flooded with light, the gallery space bigger than expected.

The outside of the building may be signed off on before the inside, the grading and landscaping will still proceed before freeze up, the glass is finally on the near horizon. Interior work is still going on, the elevator will be installed next week.
